Unfortunately, that mod is currently only playable using older development kit headsets but members of the original team have been hard at work bringing it up to date. Now, a fan project is set to make Valve’s critically lauded sequel playable in virtual reality on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.īack when the current VR boom was just getting started, a talented team put together HLVR, a mod that allowed players to experience Half-Life 2 like never before using an Oculus Rift DK1 headset and a Razer Hydra motion controller. The original team behind HLVR along with new team members are working to rectify this with Half-Life 2: VR. Because of this, the original HLVR mod could only be played using the development kits. Support for Rift development kits was added to Valve's Source engine, but as the tech advanced, the Source implementation wasn't updated. Because Half-Life 2’s guns were never made for flipping over and looking at in such detail, all weapons have also been remodelled.Īccording to Road to VR, when the HLVR mod in 2013 with motion-controller input support using the Razer Hydra and Rift DK1.
